Evaluating the Accuracy of Remote Dendrometers in Tree Diameter Measurements at Breast Height

An accurate tree diameter (DBH) measurement is a significant component of forest inventory. This study assessed the reliability remote dendrometers to measure DBH. We compared direct caliper measurements (reference measurements) collected from laser and smartphone at 0.5 m, 1 1.5 m distances each within three types (pine, oak, poplar forests). In general, all underestimated mean measurements, regardless distances. observed that deviation pine oak were lowest (0.3 cm 0.36 cm, respectively). The deviations between distance, across types, noticeably larger others. ANOVA test was used determine whether existed specific among different types. rejected null hypothesis, which suggested there no statistically differences (p<0.05) DBH obtained indirect (smartphone caliper) captured distance.
